Bridgestone puts tyre safety in the spotlight in Scotland

Bridgestone has pumped up its presence in Scotland with its first dedicated tyre safety event in the region - and it proved such a hit with Motherwell motorists that more visits north of the border are now being planned.

The event saw Bridgestone and Auchinlea Tyres inspect more than 100 tyres at Betty’s Diner, off Westfield Road, while providing drivers with advice on tyre safety and helping them understand the importance of regular checks and maintenance.

In total, 16% of tyres were found to require urgent attention and 24% were advised to keep a close eye on their tyres, highlighting the importance of regular checks and demonstrating that there is still more to be done to help keep motorists safe on roads. Additionally, to raise awareness of the simple steps you should take in checking your tyres, Become a Bridgestone Road Safety Hero bags were also given away during the event, while Bridgestone’s distinctive branded VW Buzz generated plenty of attention when parked up.

VW Buzz Scotland 1The Scottish event was organised by Chris Liddle, Key Account Manager – Consumer & Commercial Products, and forms part of Bridgestone's ongoing Become a Road Safety Hero campaign, which involves colleagues engaging with motorists across the UK to spread important tyre safety messages.

The importance of the message has been underlined by recently released figures from TyreSafe, which estimates that 6.1 million tyres on UK roads are illegal or dangerously worn at any given time, typically due to having a tread depth below the UK legal limit of 1.6mm. In addition, the Department for Transport's Reported Road Casualties Great Britain: Final Results 2025 report revealed that the number of people killed or seriously injured (KSI) in collisions involving illegal, defective or underinflated tyres increased from 169 in 2024 to 201 in 2025.

For Bridgestone, events such as the Scottish tyre safety check provide an opportunity to turn that message into practical advice, allowing motorists to have their tyres inspected while learning more about the simple checks they can carry out themselves.

Chris said: “This was a really important event for us because it was the first time we have taken our road safety outreach into Scotland in 2026 and the response was fantastic.

“We inspected 25 vehicles and 100 tyres during the event, giving us a great opportunity to speak directly to motorists about the importance of checking their tyres and making sure they are safe and properly maintained.

“The feedback we've received since our visit has been extremely positive, and we've already been asked if   we could hold similar events with Auchinlea Tyres. That's a great indication of how successful the day was.

“We're now looking at the possibility of taking the Road Safety Buzz to different locations across Scotland before the end of the year, working with Scottish dealers to help engage local communities. The Buzz certainly attracted plenty of attention. It's a real head-turner and a great way of starting conversations with people about tyre safety.”
